Stunning! I saw this gorgeous sculpture around sunset and the light was perfect. My only critique is that it’s not clear what the monument symbolizes but other reviewers have helped clarify its meaning online!
The Wings monument is made out of three stainless steel wings coated in weathered bronze, with a height of 24 meters and a 4 meter tall pedestal, covered in granite on the front side and in grass on the back side. The pedestal is in the shape of a cairn representing an imaginary tomb made of the thousands of unknown tombs of Romanian citizens who died in the prisons, camps an other detentions centres throughout th communist period. The three wing represent the Holy Trinity carrying to heaven the souls of the victims of the communist regime.
How can you have negative comments about a piece of art? First you have no idea what is symbolizes. So look into that before criticizing. The Wings are a symbol for the fight against communism. And to top it all, they are symbolically placed in the Free Press Square, on the spot where Stalin statue used to be. I actually really enjoy this monument.
There seems to be a symbolism with this monument as it represents broken wings in front of the free press house. ☺️😎 …
Rest In Peace for all the people that died for the liberation of the country
I was in front the monument and from an aesthetic point of view I like it and it impresses me in a pleasant way. The statue represents the flying theme with the wings and feathers of a bird opened for flight, it's a master piece, and abstract one and remembers me Constantin Brancusi which also tried to represent in a minimalist style the kiss, the infinite, the birth, the woman, the bird but time will show how much value we give to the statue.
I see some hatred and negative opinions related to money cost, but how does this became important in evaluating a statue? Do you know how much money did cost the impressive monuments all over the world, this is strictly a state issue, how resources and man power is allocated, then end result which will stay there for the years to come result is important.
For those which hate the statue in an aesthetic sense, instead of nothing it's better to have something, I prefer a museum with pictures and statues no matter their cost is instead or the value or the aesthetic instead of having an empty museum. except the relay awful gross art, but by no means it's the case. Same here I prefer this statue in that empty place having nothing of interest.
Nice 100 ton steel monument erected in the memory of the people who lost their lives in the fight against the Communist regime. Located in the north of the Capital in front of Casa Presei (Free Press House building).
Tượng đài Monumentul Aripi, ở Quảng trường Piața Presei Libere, tại Thủ đô Bucharest của nước Romania 🇷🇴 …
Nice monument. Maybe not perfect, but much better than the empty space that remained more than 25 years after removing Lenin's monument.
